R&D theme

R&D theme 1
Development of early diagnosis and treatment methods for refractory cardiovascular disease to realize a resilient society

To perform basic / clinical research for the development of medicine and medical devices to improve quality of life and the prognoses for cardiomyopathy and severe ischemic heart disease, which are underlying diseases for heart failure, which has a poor prognosis.

R&D theme 2
Achieving resilience through the development of new treatment methods for refractory cancer

While performing basic / clinical research to develop eradication methods for refractory cancers such as pancreatic cancer, basic / clinical research will be performed to develop optimal treatment methods, including palliative treatments, for advanced cancers that cannot be eradicated so that patients can live with the cancer without reducing their quality of life.

R&D theme 3
Development of integrated life medicine to reduce the number of patients with dementia

In order to develop eradication methods for dementia, clinical data will be used in mathematical analyses and AI analyses on the onset and progression of dementia and basic research using animal models will also be performed. Community participation in the Kento bio-community will be encouraged, and clinical data from the elderly will be quantified and incorporated into onset prediction models. For advanced dementia that cannot be eradicated, basic / clinical research will be performed to develop optimal lifestyles so that patients can live with dementia without reducing their quality of life.

R&D theme 4
Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment strategies for fighting and overcoming emerging/re-emerging viral infections

To perform basic / clinical research to develop standard vaccines and compounds as a part of a bio-strategy for emerging/re-emerging viral infections in addition to optimizing a public health approach against viral infections that uses experience from COVID-19 (restricting people's movements and voluntary restraint).

R&D theme 5
Sensory function impairments accompanying the four major diseases

The four major diseases may get worse when the sensory function impairments that accompany them deteriorate the patient's quality of life. While performing basic / clinical research to develop eradication methods for sensory function impairments, basic / clinical research will be performed for sensory function impairments that cannot be eradicated in order to develop optimal lifestyles so that patients can live with the sensory function impairments without reducing their quality of life.
